January 14, 2010 (Toronto) – Every year, children’s hospitals in Canada treat and provide hope to more than 2.6 million children. Recognizing the importance of their work, Pizza Pizza Limited, through its Pizza Pizza and Pizza 73 banners, joined forces in 2009 to raise $200,000 to assist Children’s Miracle Network in providing care, education programs, equipment and research devoted to children’s health.
The pizza purveyors joined friends and familiar faces at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto to present Children’s Miracle Network with a cheque for funds collected in 2009.
“While Canadians enjoy a universal health care system, not everything is fully funded,” said John Hartman, chief international officer for Children’s Miracle Network. “Thanks to the support from partners like Pizza Pizza and Pizza 73, our organization is able to provide children’s hospitals with additional funding to ensure that these provincial hospitals continue to thrive across Canada.”
Throughout the year, pizza lovers across Canada had the opportunity to contribute to the Slices for Smiles Fund in support of Children’s Miracle Network. Monies were collected through donation boxes and at local customer appreciation events. In April and October, Pizza Pizza and Pizza 73 held week-long fundraisers where a portion of the proceeds from select discounted menu items were donated to Children’s Miracle Network.
“Slices for Smiles is our team’s favourite way to help raise funds and awareness for children’s hospitals,” said Pat Finelli, chief marketing officer for Pizza Pizza and Pizza 73. “We thank everyone that contributed to the success of this year’s fundraisers. Our customers, team and the kids we had the pleasure of working with made this year’s effort truly special.”
Pizza Pizza and Pizza 73 will be hosting its next week-long Slices for Smiles fundraising push in April 2010.
